Manager Bob Westervelt, Department of Public Utilities – Finance/Administration, answers questions before Council unanimously approved an amended ordinance relating to gas rates. Based on the variable nature of the cost of gas, including the cost of transportation, Council approved a consumption charge broken into a fixed and variable component. The fixed consumption charge is established based on the budgeted operating and capital expenditures not covered by fund balance. The variable consumption charge will be calculated monthly based on the cost of gas.
