COMMUNITY News:
Coro de Cámara is invited to participate in a collaboration with popular composer/conductor Christopher Tin, professional orchestra, and singers from around the world, culminating in a June 9 performance at Carnegie Hall.
In recognition of Coro’s dedication to musical excellence and through an interview and audition process with Coro’s Artistic Director, Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) asked Coro to be part of this special music concert.
The program, “We Sing! We Rise! We Soar!” highlights the best of Tin’s energetic and inspiring compositions, one of which Coro performed last season.
Ten enthusiastic Coro singers are making the trip to New York City: sopranos Jenni Gaffney, Anna Lewis, and Kirhsten Rooks; altos Carolyn Connor, Melissa Lewis and Tamson Smith; tenor Kathy Gursky and basses Matt Lewis, Jack Shlachter and Alan Van Orden. They will take part in two days of intensive rehearsals with Tin in preparation for the unforgettable experience of performing Tin’s music under his baton in a celebrated, world-renowned venue.
“Wow, Carnegie Hall! Really? Not only is Christopher Tin’s music full of excitement and challenges, but this is a chance for me to sing in a large choir, something I’ve never done,” Gursky said. “I think the level of energy will be magical.”
“The opportunity to sing in the space where Leonard Bernstein made his debut? To sing with a mega choir with full orchestration? To sing with the composer conducting his own works? I cannot wait,” Smith said.
“Changing Lives through Performance” is DCINY’s mission, and no doubt the 10 Coro singers heading to New York City will be changed by this unique rehearsal and performance event. Closer to home, the full group of Coro de Cámara singers will present “Time to… Love” on May 4 and 5.
