Music News:

Looking for a special musical treat this Christmas season?  Then, don’t miss Coro de Cámara’s “Gaudete! A Joyful Christmas Concert” is 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11 at United Church in Los Alamos and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at First Presbyterian Church, 208 Grant Avenue in Santa Fe.

The Latin word, “Gaudete!” means “rejoice,” and the music in this concert reflects the joy of the season.

Energetic Renaissance songs from the Piae Cantiones collection are first on the program, followed by delightful selections by Michael Praetorius, 16th century Spanish dance carols, and pieces played by a guest instrumental ensemble (recorders, lute, and percussion).

Three compositions focus on Mary and the Great Mystery. The first, “Of a Rose, a Lovely Rose,” has a 15th century text set by English composer John RutterThe remaining two, “Ave Maria” and the haunting “O Magnum Mysterium,” are by the contemporary Spanish composer, Javier Busto.  Randol Alan Bass’s exciting “Gloria” is the featured work and rounds out the first part of the program.

In the second half, you will hear popular holiday favorites, such as “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “Feliz Navidad.”

Join Coro de Cámara for this time of rejoicing and making merry through the gift of music.  Donations will be gratefully accepted at the door.
