Cone Zone: Week Of Sept. 7


Western Area Improvements Phase 3:

Roadwork continues on 43rd Street north. Expect flagging operations during ongoing project.

20th Street/Fuller Lodge Improvements:

The north bound lane will be closed to allow for the demolition of curb and gutter, asphalt and sidewalks on the east side of 20th Street.

The southbound lane will be open for traffic use and business access. Motorist may experience flagging operations and minimal delays. Pedestrians will need to use the west side of the street.

Work hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.

Sherwood Blvd. /La Vista Drive:

RMCI completing concrete curb and gutter, subgrade preparation for sidewalks. Utility verification and traffic control management will be on going. Subgrade prep for roadway, large equipment and trucks will be continuous throughout the project.

Barranca Mesa:

Reconstruction work continues on Zuni Street on Barranca Mesa. Crews will start with demolition work on the cul-de-sac east of Los Pueblos. It is anticipated that the duration of work on each cul-de-sac will be approximately 2-3 weeks. Residents will be kept notified of work affecting their homes via personal visits from County staff or via door hangers. Asphalt Resurfacing in White Rock:

The asphalt and concrete work in the area is substantially complete and contractors will be addressing punch list items and performing general clean-up for the next couple of weeks. Cisneros concrete will be adjusting manhole covers in the project area.

Gold Street & East Gate Asphalt Resurfacing:

Asphalt resurfacing activities will be taking place for the next 3 weeks on Gold Street and East Gate Drive. It is anticipated crews will mobilize next week and actual construction work will begin later in the week or early the following week. Door hangers will be distributed to residents and affected businesses at least 48 hours in advance of the start of construction.

North Community Non-potable Water Improvement Project
Arizona Avenue:

Crews will be trenching and placing pipe on Arizona Avenue between 35th and 36th Streets to expand and improve storage of the non-potable water by connecting it to the Group 12 tank. To avoid the inconvenience of an open trench for the entire length of the street, work is occurring in a rolling construction zone moving east and delineated by traffic control devices and a flagging operation. Some traffic delays may be expected. Utility services will not be interrupted. Crews will work 7:30 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Monday through Friday.

North Mesa Non-potable Water Improvement Project
North Mesa Road:

Flagging operation on North Mesa Road east of Hawk Drive as crews haul rock and debris. The road crossing at Hawk Drive is expected to be completed Saturday, Sept. 12. In support of the non-potable water system improvement project, crews are converting a North Mesa ball field pump station and installing pipe to the middle school tank near Loma Linda neighborhood. Some traffic delays are expected. 

Barranca Mesa on Los Pueblos – Replacing new pressure relief vault:

Crews have completed the excavation work and are now installing the pressure reducing valve inside the vault. Work site is on Los Pueblos between Navajo and Chaco. Traffic control devices will continue to be in place through the week. Project completion and site restoration is expected to occur within the next week and a half.

Timber Ridge – Replace Sewer Lift Station

Excavation work for the lift station itself has been completed and contractor will be working on installing the vaults, pumps and the respective equipment inside the vaults within the next couple of weeks. Some additional excavation will be necessary to connect the new pumps to the existing force main, and that will occur after the large excavation has been substantially backfilled. The cul-de-sac will remain partially barricaded throughout the execution of the project. All measures have been taken so that no interruptions in utility services to Timber Ridge customers will occur as part of this project.

Sixth Street – Sanitary Sewer Replacement
DPU’s contractor is nearing completion of the project. The sanitary sewer line flowing toward the DP lift station is operating normally, while the installation of the force main that will permanently connect the lift station to the sewer system. This will happen within the first two days of the week. After that, the contractor will be working on site restoration and repaving. The large excavation originally anticipated in front of the building at the intersection of Sixth Street and DP Road has been averted, and instead a shallower excavation will be made across DP Road to connect the new force main directly into an existing manhole on the north side of the road. Temporary traffic control devices will be placed to make this operation safe for the public and workers alike and the impact to parking for business patrons will be minimized.
