COUNTY News:

Road Construction: Week of Sept. 29

For more information about the projects listed below, please e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 505.662.8150, or visit the “Projects” link at www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones.

Note: The below information is based on schedule information provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.

Central Avenue Improvements Project:

Monday, Sept. 29, the contractor will close Oppenheimer north of Central (library driveway), resulting in the west library parking lot being closed. Please access the east library parking lot from Bathtub Row or park behind the Senior Center off Rose Street.

Note: On Thursdays when the Farmers Market is in the east library parking lot, there will be no on-site parking for both the library and Farmers Market. Please use alternate parking such as behind the Senior Center off Rose Street, at the Judicial Complex, or at the 20th and Trinity parking lot. We apologize in advance for this inconvenience. This closure will last approximately three weeks; however, any weather delays may impact the schedule.

Central, from 15th to 20th will open to traffic Wednesday, Oct. 1; however, if there are delays, pavement striping and roadway markings may occur later in the week with short term work zones.

Also Oct. 1, Central west of Bathtub Row to Rose Street will be closed. The contractor will maintain eastbound access to the Real Deal Theater. The after school Atomic City Transit Express Routes will drop passengers off at the bus stop just west of the Post Office; parents are urged to remind their children who ride the Express Route to use extreme caution as they cross Bathtub Row.

Saturday, Oct. 4, Central between 15th and 20th will be closed from approximately 9:30 a.m. to noon for a Chamber event.

Please stay out of the established work zones. Cutting across an active work zone is extremely dangerous and pedestrians are advised to use the provided temporary crossings.

Contractor will be moving to a six day work week, Monday through Saturday, with possible Sunday or night work as needed.

Diamond Drive Striping:

Roadway striping and markings will be applied by County crews either the week of Oct. 6 or Oct.13, depending on weather. The reason for the delay is to allow the slurry seal time to cure so the roadway paint will adhere to the surface.

Western Area Improvements Phase 2:

45thStreet, 45th Street and 47th Street off Trinity – expect general punch list work and clean-up prior to a final inspection walk-through.

On 46th/47th streets off Sandia, concrete work continues, to be followed by roadbed preparation.

Sound Wall between Tewa Loop and Airport Road:

Shoulder work continues on the south side of East Drive; please do not park on the south side of East Drive. Construction of the block wall is complete. Installation of landscaping on the north side of the wall will begin upon material delivery.

New Nature Center:

Expect shoulder work at 2600 Central while the contractor installs new curb and gutter.
