COUNTY News:

The Public Works/Traffic Division provides the latest updates on the following projects:

Traffic Alerts for Large Transports This Weekend/Expect Delays Saturday/Sunday  in White Rock, Truck Route, Diamond, Arkansas, North Communty

Desert Wind Transport will be transporting two modular buildings from Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock. The move will proceed down Meadow Lane West to Rover North, NM 4 East and up West Jemez Road (Truck Route), across the Omega Bridge, on Diamond Drive to Arkansas and to Mountain Elementary. The first modular will be transported on Saturday, October 26 starting at 10:30 a.m. and should be in place by noon. The second modular will be transported using the same route on Sunday, October 27 starting at 2:00 pm and should be in place by 3:30 pm. LAPD will be escorting both modular buildings. 

Drivers are urged to maintain a safe speed and obey officers as they direct traffic while the modular moves are occurring.

Public Works/Traffic Division projects

White Rock: Fog Sealing – Monday and Tuesday – Rover, Grand Canyon, Bryce

Because of weather concerns, work was postponed until Monday and Tuesday. GM Emulsion will begin fog sealing Rover at SR4 and continue toward Grand Canyon Drive, then sealing Grand Canyon from SR4 to Meadow Lane. They will also work on Bryce Ave from Rover to Meadow Lane. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and work should be completed by Tuesday, weather permitting. Flagging operations will be in place. The contractor will be visiting area residents and businesses during the week to leave information on schedule, coordination and contact info.

Median Work on Central Ave. near Rose Street Beginning Monday

GM Emulsion in coordination with Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division will be working on Central Ave., near Rose Street in the Median starting Monday, October 28th at 8:30 am. There will be a flagging operation in place on Central Ave. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to slow down and obey all traffic signs in this work zone. Sidewalk Work on Sherwood Blvd. Beginning Tuesday

GM Emulsion in coordination with Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division will be working at 103 Sherwood Blvd starting Tuesday, October 29th at 8:30 am. The sidewalk will be closed and all pedestrian traffic will be diverted to the West side of Sherwood. A flagging operation will be in place. Vehicle traffic is urged to slow down and watch for pedestrian traffic in this work zone. Canyon Glen – asphalt and concrete road repairs 

Work begins Monday. Flagging operations will be in place.

Pedestrians and motorists are urged to slow down, obey all traffic devices and maintain a safe distance from the work zones during the above projects.

Other road construction projects

NM502 Roundabout and Road Reconstruction (NMDOT project) 

No change from last week’s report: NM 502 (Trinity Drive) eastbound and westbound traffic is shifted to the south side of NM 502 (Trinity Drive) for the section of roadway between Arroyo Lane and east of Tewa Loop with one lane of travel in each direction.

Access to businesses and buildings or parks located on the north side of NM502 is being maintained.

The current detours between Knecht St. and Central Ave are the same: East-bound NM502 traffic detours onto 4th Street and Central Avenue. After a full stop, motorists turn right (east) and travel through the construction zone to continue eastbound out of Los Alamos on NM502. West-bound NM502 traffic entering Los Alamos and approaching the roundabout construction zone detours onto Central Avenue then west to Knecht Street then left to return to Trinity Drive. 

Project hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please slow down, use caution and expect delays in this area, especially during peak commute times.

Traffic advisories from NMDOT are available on www.nmroads.com and motorists are asked to check the site for updates on this project as it proceeds.

TA-21 Clean Up Project – DP Road (N3B project)

No change from last week’s report. Clean-up work on the LANL TA-21 Site at the far eastern end of DP Road continues. Large trucks carrying away demolition debris containers will be exiting DP Rd at an average of approximately three trucks per day. Motorists are asked to be alert for trucks exiting; use caution when entering or exiting DP Road, as this area is near the NM502 Road Reconstruction project.

Oppenheimer Road Excavation

Marcon Excavating, Inc continues excavating a section of road located near 557 Oppenheimer with a traffic lane shift in this area. Work is expected to wrap up on Thursday. Motorists are urged to drive slowly through this work zone and watch for pedestrians.
