Road Construction Update: Week of May 13, 2013

Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving & Utility Project – Phase 2:
Canyon Road remains closed with a “rolling” closure between Rim Road and 15th Street; the closure shifts closer to 15th Street as work on the sewer line progresses. Residential access in the immediate closure area will be provided; all others should seek alternate routes.
Canyon Road traffic between Nugget and Rim Road can expect daytime flagging operations with minor delays. Two-way traffic will be restored in this area in the evenings and weekends when work is not occurring.
Pedestrians are asked to use the sidewalk that remains on the east side of Canyon.
Mesa Public Library Safety Improvements:
The roadway in front of the library is closed between the two library parking lots. Handicapped parking access is being moved to the Senior Center next week to allow the contractor to begin work on the north side of the work area. Handicapped parking at the Senior Center is accessible from Bathtub Row. Appropriate signage will be placed as soon at the handicap parking locations change. Pedestrians are urged to use the provided pedestrian pathways and to watch for construction activity.
Cañada del Buey Multi-Use Trail Improvements:
Work has started on the trail improvements and the contractor is currently trimming or removing trees that will block the construction of the pathway. The contractor is cutting and blocking trees that are larger than 4″ in diameter for firewood and are offering this wood free of charge to the community. If you are interested in picking up this free firewood, it will be stacked at the intersection of Bonnieview and Longview. Those interested will have to load and haul the wood at their own responsibility and risk. The firewood should be picked up after 5 p.m. or during the weekend.
Upcoming Construction: Western Area Phase 1
This project includes pavement rehabilitation on 41st, 42nd, 43rd, and 44th Streets off Trinity, including concrete replacement and reconstruction of the sidewalk paths from the above streets to the Western Area Park. Council awarded this project to RMCI at their April 30 meeting. The anticipated start date is May 28.
