Cone Zone: Week Of May 13

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Public Works/Traffic Division announces the projects sheduled for the week of May 13.

Tsikumu Village – Road Improvements:

Albuquerque Asphalt will be paving the last section of the Cheyenne cul-de-sac and Sioux on Monday. They will be adjusting manholes and utility valves the rest of the week, and likely will continue this work into the following week. The contractor will also be conducting final clean-up of the work area. Access to residences as well as mail/package delivery, school and transit routes, emergency services, trash/recycle/yard waste pick-up will be maintained.

Road Striping – Los Alamos & White Rock:

Traffic and Streets Division crews have begun striping local roadways to replace faded markings for traffic safety. Crews are working on North Mesa and will continue toward Omega Bridge, moving east on Trinity and east on Canyon/Central to East Road at the edge of Los Alamos. Once they have completed striping in Los Alamos, they will move to White Rock. Work will continue until main roadways are finished; all work is expected to wrap up mid-July. Work is weather dependent. No traffic delays anticipated that will impede traffic flow; please slow down and use caution when crews are working in these areas.

Other road construction projects:

NM502 Roundabout and Road Reconstruction (NMDOT project)

Star Paving continues work on the detour pavement on the north side of NM502 (Eastern area residential/airport side) and along the west shoulder of 4th Street to Central Avenue. During detour paving, flagging operations will be in effect 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and traffic may be stopped for short durations for one lane passage through the work zone.

In addition, the common trench for underground utilities will get underway at the western end of the work zone; weather permitting. The two-way traffic will be shifted to the north side of the road for installation of utilities between Tewa Loop and Sombrillo Court.

Traffic advisories from NMDOT are available on www.nmroads.com and motorists are asked to check the site for updates on this project as it proceeds.

Omega Bridge/E. Jemez Road Work with Full Road Closure on Weekends (NNSA project)

Road closures for East Jemez Road are scheduled for May 10-12 to allow for open trenching. Lane closures and, at times, full road closures are necessary to allow workers to replace a main water line, which requires open trenching across East Jemez Road, between Omega Bridge and the LANL entrance. Seek alternate routes; allow time for delays this weekend.

Questions or concerns about the project can be directed to Seproadwork@nnsa.doe.gov.

TA-21 Clean Up Project – DP Road (N3B project)

Clean up work on the LANL TA-21 Site at the far eastern end of DP Road continues. Large trucks carrying away demolition debris containers will be exiting DP Road at an average of approximately three trucks per day. Motorists are asked to be alert for trucks exiting; use caution when entering or exiting DP Road, as this area is near the N.M. 502 Road Reconstruction project.
