Public Works Projects: 

Canyon Rim Trail Underpass

AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque continues constructing the Canyon Rim Trail Underpass. Shoulder closures remain in place for east and westbound traffic on N.M. 502. Crews will be grading on the south side of N.M. 502 for installation of asphalt that will be used as a detour for the project.

Because of the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot and a 100-foot section of the trail near the trailhead are closed for safety.

The project includes extension of the 10-foot wide hard surface trail connecting the terminus of the Canyon Rim Trail and existing trailhead to Entrada Drive beneath N.M. 502 via a reinforced concrete box structure.

ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street

Next week, crews with GM Emulsion will be working on the eastbound right shoulder on Trinity Drive starting at 35th Street, continuing east to Canyon View.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Traffic signs and devices shift vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic around the work zones. Access to residents and businesses as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.

North Mesa Roadway and Utilities Improvement Project (Casa de Oro)

TLC Plumbing and Utility continue construction activities for several weeks. The contractor will be working on road and utility improvements on Alamo Road, Capulin Road, Tsankawi St, Oro Ct, Tsankawi Ct, Cedro Ct, and Big Rock Loop South. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Traffic signs and devices will shift vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic around work zones. Access to residents as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, school bus routes, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.

Leisure Lagoon (addition to the Aquatic Ctr.)

Canyon Road continues to be closed from the Nature Center to the Central intersection. This closure is to accommodate the relocation of a water line. The closure will remain through May 14. The driveway access to the parking lot of United Church remains open.

Advance Notice to Aquatic Center Users: As part of this project, it will be necessary to close the pool for one day. This date is tentatively set for Monday, May 24.

 Traffic & Streets Division Projects:

Central and 15th Street

Crews will be eradicating the County logo at the intersection of Central and 15th beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, May 13 and completing the work by 5 a.m. Friday, May 14. The intersection will be closed. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic will be detoured at Knecht and 20th Streets.

Aztec Ave. Manhole Adjustments

Starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday crews will be placing concrete around manholes on Aztec Avenue in White Rock. Crews will place orange barrels on the manholes while the concrete cures. There will be a flagging operation in place.

Grand Canyon Dr. Sidewalk Repairs

Beginning Monday at 8:30 a.m. crews will be replacing sidewalks on Grand Canyon in various locations from NM 4 to Rover Blvd. Sidewalks will be closed in each location with detours for pedestrian traffic.

Canyon Rd and Central Ave. Pavement Preservation

Traffic & Streets Division and GM Emulsion crews are performing pavement preservation along Canyon Road, from 15th Street to Diamond Dr., and Central Ave from Oppenheimer to Canyon Road.

Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This work will occur on days when the weather and temperature are favorable. A flagging operation will be used.

Meadow Lane Crack and Fog Seal Project

Traffic & Streets Division and GM Emulsion crews will be performing pavement preservation along Meadow Lane 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday and working until the project is complete. There will be a moving flagging operation as the crews progress down Meadow Lane.

White Rock Sidewalk Repairs on Bryce, Rover Blvd., Cheryl and Connie Ave.

Traffic & Streets and GM Emulsion crews will be repairing sections of sidewalk at various locations along Bryce, Rover Blvd., Cheryl and Connie Avenue beginning at 8 a.m. Monday and working until the project is complete. There will be sidewalk closures and detours along the route. Partial road closures and flagging operations may be in place as well. 

Non-County Projects:

The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed, but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slow down in work zones. Direct questions or concerns to the project contact listed below:

N.M. 502 Roundabout Project 

No changes since last week. East bound traffic has been shifted to the north side of N.M. 502 and channeled back into the east bound lane in front of the Crossroads Church. Motorists are reminded the posted speed limit through the project is 25 MPH.

R and M Construction – 1010 Central Ave., Sidewalk Closure

Sidewalk access on the north side of Central Ave from 1000 Central Ave. to the entrance to the Bradbury Museum complex is closed to pedestrian traffic through May 30. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the south side of Central Avenue at Knecht Street and then detoured at the intersection of Central Avenue and 15th  to the north side of Central Ave. Contact: Robert Sanchez 505.927.2027.

Marcon Excavating – Arkansas Ave Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement

Arkansas Avenue between Diamond Drive and 41st Street continues to be closed to through traffic until May 17 while crews replace existing water and sewer lines and connect to County infrastructure for Arkansas Place and the new townhomes being constructed. Contact: Kris Luster 505.690.0587

DP Road (Work related to Canyon Walk Apts and The Bluffs – Bethel Development) Qualcon Builders, LLC – 120 DP Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement and Roadway Reconstruction

Next week, roadway reconstruction activities will get underway with roadway grading and curb & gutter construction. These activities will impact DP Road from Trinity Drive to Fire Station #2 with segments of the roadway restricted to one-lane traffic controlled by a flagged/signaled system. One-lane traffic restrictions will occur only during hours of construction potentially 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Access to businesses in this area will be maintained during these activities. 

The contractor is working in the right-of-way to replace existing utilities with upgraded services related to the new Canyon Walk Apartments (under construction) and The Bluffs senior housing (soon to be constructed). The roadway reconstruction includes installation of curb and gutter, sidewalks and paving of the roadway.  All construction activities related to the reconstruction of DP Road are currently expected to be substantially completed by the end of May.
