Public Works Projects:
Canyon Rim Trail Underpass
Detour is active on N.M. 502, which allows the contractor to work on the north side of the road installing precast concrete boxes.
Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot, and a 100 ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety.
AUI will be hauling excess material from project site to a site off DP Road. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
ADA improvements along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street
The contractor will not work on the project the week of June 28, work will resume July 6.
North Mesa Roadway and Utilities Improvement Project (Casa de Oro)
TLC Plumbing and Utility continues road and utility improvements on Alamo Road, Capulin Road, Tsankawi Street, Oro Court, Tsankawi Court, Cedro Court and Big Rock Loop South. The contractor will continue removing and replacing concrete sidewalks, driveway aprons and curb and gutter in selected areas along Capulin Road, Alamo Road, Oro Court and Cedro Court.
Utility work will continue on Cedro Court and Big Rock Loop (south) including the installation of new gas and water lines to residences. Utility work on Capulin Road and Tsankawi Street continues with installation of water and gas lines. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting.
Traffic signs and devices will shift vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic around work zones. Access to residents as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, school bus routes, trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians are advised to be alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.
Leisure Lagoon (addition to the Aquatic Center)
The bike lane along Canyon Road by the United Church remains closed pending repaving. Bicyclists are encouraged to ride in the driving lane as the material in the bike lane is soft. The sidewalk is also closed in this area, but pedestrians can walk in the bike lane area between the traffic control devices and construction fence.
Traffic & Streets Division Projects:

Countywide Road Striping
Crews continue their annual road striping project until complete, beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finishing daily by 3 p.m.
Countywide Vegetation Control
Crews will begin their annual vegetation control countywide starting Monday at 8:30 a.m. and ending by 3 p.m. daily until completed. They will be trimming trees, bushes and other vegetation that is obstructing the view of signs, intersections, etc. They will be closing sidewalks intermittently as they progress.
Non-County Projects:
The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed, but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slow down in work zones. Please direct questions or concerns to the project contact listed below:
West Road Construction (LANL):
West Road will re-open Saturday, July 3. Crews continue working next week on shoulder soil erosion issues and repairs. Continue to use West Jemez or N.M. 4 instead.
DP Rd (Work related to Canyon Walk Apts and The Bluffs – Bethel Development)
Qualcon Builders, LLC – 120 DP Road Utility Infrastructure Replacement and Roadway Reconstruction
Next week, roadway reconstruction activities continue with roadway grading and curb and gutter construction. These activities will impact DP Road from Trinity Drive to Fire Station #2 with segments of the roadway restricted to one-lane traffic controlled by a flagged/signaled system. One-lane traffic restrictions will occur only during hours of construction potentially from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
Additionally, the Canyon Rim Trail will be closed at the DP Road Crossing Monday through Wednesday to allow for construction of sidewalk. No access to or from the Trail will be available at DP Road during this time. Access to businesses in this area will be maintained during these activities.
The contractor work in DP Road is related to the new Canyon Walk Apartments (under construction) and The Bluffs senior housing (soon to be constructed). The roadway reconstruction includes installation of curb and gutter, sidewalks and paving of the roadway. All construction activities related to the reconstruction of DP Road are currently expected to be substantially completed by the end of June. Navajo Rd Conduit/Fiber Installation – Sidewalk Closure and Flagging Operation (Sons Communications)
Crews will begin installing new conduit and fiber on Navajo Rd between San Juan and El Nido through July 8. Los Pueblos Conduit/Fiber Installation – Sidewalk Closure and Flagging Operation (Sons Communications)
Sons Communications will be installing new conduit and fiber on Los Pueblos between 90 San Juan to 580 Los Pueblos through July 8. 1505 15th Street Conduit/Fiber Installation-Sidewalk Closure, Lane Diversion and Flagging operation (High 5 networks)
High 5 Networks crews will be closing sidewalks on East and West side of the street on 15th Street between Nectar St and Oakwood Loop. They will also be diverting Southbound traffic to the median through the construction zone. Work will be completed by Wednesday. Work will start each day at 9 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. Pedestrian traffic will be diverted at the South side of the Nectar/15th Street intersection to Oakwood Loop. R and M Construction – 1010 Central Ave., Sidewalk Closure
Sidewalk access on the north side of Central Avenue from 1000 Central Avenue to the entrance to the Bradbury Museum complex is closed to pedestrian traffic through Wednesday. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the south side of Central Ave at Knecht Street and then detoured at the intersection of Central Avenue and 15th to the north side of Central Avenue.
