For more information about the projects listed below, e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 662-8150, or visit the “Projects” link at www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution as you travel through these construction areas.

Eastern Area 2 Phase 1 Slurry Seal – Night Work:

Night work requiring road closures will occur on Myrtle, 9th between Myrtle and Canyon, 4th north of Central, and Canyon from Nugget to Manhattan Loop east between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, and Thursday, June 27. RMCI will start staging the traffic control devices at approximately 9 p.m. and the road closures will go active at 10 p.m. The roads will be opened for traffic by 5 a.m.

In order to accomplish this work, it is imperative that all off-street parking be moved to alternate locations. Please do not park vehicles on these streets starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday so the contractor can prepare the road for the night work.

Work will consist of the placement of a slurry seal on the above streets. Once the slurry seal is applied, no traffic can be on the wet surface until it cures, typically about three to four hours. Please note that this application is temperature and humidity sensitive, so if the weather changes, this work will be delayed.

Eastern Area 2 Concrete, Paving & Utility Project – Phase 2:

Milling the surface of 15th Street between Central Avenue and Canyon Road is expected to start on Thursday, June 27. Motorists can expect significant traffic control starting south of the Central/15th intersection extending north to Canyon Road. Work will occur with lane closures and flagging operations as needed. The work will be completed in four passes. Once milling is complete, trenching for utility work will begin on the north end of 15th Street; this work will require lane closures. Please use caution when traveling this busy intersection and pay attention to traffic control devices within the work areas. When possible, motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.

RMCI continues to use a 15-passenger van to transport pedestrians through the Canyon Road construction site. The van circulates every five to seven minutes while RMCI is working, typically 7 a.m. to 5-7 p.m. depending on the job activity, Monday through Saturday (RMCI will work Saturdays in June). This service for pedestrians will continue until June 28 or when sidewalks are open on both sides of Canyon. Each evening, RMCI will re-establish the pedestrian paths for use.

The van route starts at 9th Street and Canyon Road continuing north on Canyon, making the Nugget, Opal and Piñon Loops. Pedestrians on Nugget, Opal, and Piñon Loops will be picked up in front of their residence. Additional stops include the Pine Street cul-de-sac and Quartz at 6th Street. The route will end at Canyon and 15th Street. The driver will then turn around and repeat the route in the opposite direction.

Canyon Road between 15th and Rim Road remains closed; the closure may shift as work progresses. Residential access in the immediate closure area will be provided; all other motorists should seek alternate routes.

Canyon Road traffic between Nugget and Rim Road can expect daytime flagging operations with minor delays. Two-way traffic will be restored in this area in the evenings and weekends when work is not occurring.

Pedestrians are asked to use the van service provided.

Western Area Phase 1:

RMCI plans to mill 43rd Street on both sides of Trinity starting on Monday. Flyers have been distributed to residents on 43rd Street.

41st and 42nd Streets north of Trinity remain closed to through traffic to continue utility work, which will be followed by concrete work towards the end of the week.

Access to residences as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, and trash and recycling collection will be maintained. Residents are asked to maximize use of off-street parking. Any necessary on-street parking should be away from the existing work zones. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. with possible weekend work if necessary.

White Rock Concrete Replacement:

Sections of concrete curb and gutter will be replaced on 39th Street and Tsankawi beginning on Monday, June 24. Motorists on these streets can expect shoulder work and possible flagging operations resulting in minor delays. On-street parking adjacent to the work areas will be restricted. Work should be completed by the end of the week.

Cañada del Buey Multi-Use Trail Improvements:

The contractor will be working on Longview near Park Lane, expect construction traffic as the contractor works on retaining walls. Please avoid the construction work areas.
