Public Works Projects:
The projects listed in this section are being managed by County Public Works staff through contractors.
Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones. Please note the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.
Sherwood Boulevard and Aztec Avenue
Crews with Star Paving Company will continue road and drainage improvements on Sherwood Boulevard between Piedra Loop and Aztec Avenue.
Sherwood will be closed to through traffic at the intersection of Aztec and Grand Canyon Drive. Residents on Sherwood will be required to enter and exit Sherwood either from Aztec Avenue or Grand Canyon Drive depending on the daily position of the movable work zone. This closure is necessary to facilitate installation of new storm drainpipe.
Traffic devices and detour signs are in place to help motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians navigate around the work zone. Vehicular access is limited to those who reside in the immediate work area and mail delivery, emergency services, trash, and recycling collection. For the safety of the traveling public, residents are asked not to remove or relocate traffic control devices, signs, and barricades. Area residents who may have special access needs are asked to contact the Public Works Department.
Closure of Sherwood from Grand Canyon to Aztec for this first phase of work is scheduled through the end of June, while closure for the next phase of roadwork from Piedra Loop to Grand Canyon is scheduled for August 2022.
Bixby Electric is working along Sherwood Boulevard installing a new conduit for streetlights for Sherwood at the intersection. Work schedules are subject to change pending weather conditions and any material shipping delays. Work Hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Cumbres del Norte:
Star Paving Company crews continue removal operations of curbs and gutters, sidewalks, and drive pads from the intersection of Camino Redondo and San Ildefonso, heading south for approximately 1,000 feet. Expect contractor personnel and equipment within the area. Please use caution while traveling through the project work zone.
Traffic & Streets Projects:
The projects listed in this section are being managed by County Traffic & Streets Division staff. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones. Call Daniel Blea, Acting Traffic and Streets Manager for concerns, 505.663.8206.
Crews will continue striping roads in White Rock and Los Alamos. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic are urged to maintain a safe distance from the striping equipment to prevent getting their property from sprayed with paint.
Sidewalk Replacements on Navajo Road:
Streets crews will be replacing sidewalks on Navajo Road until complete. Work will take place each day 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Sidewalks will be closed. Detours for pedestrian traffic will be in place. Please follow all traffic devices.
Sidewalk Replacements on Loma del Escolar near Barranca Elementary:
Streets crews will continue replacing sidewalks in front of Barranca Elementary School until complete. Work will begin each day at 8 a.m. and finish by 3:30 p.m. Sidewalks will be closed. Detours for pedestrian traffic will be in place. Please follow all traffic devices.
The following road construction updates are posted below in the interest of keeping residents informed but are being managed or conducted by others. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.
Sidewalk Closure on East Side of 15th Street between Trinity Drive & Central Avenue:
CableCom, LLC and 2 Men 1 Cable will be boring along 15th Street between Trinity Drive & Central Avenue and will be replacing pedestals within this location.
The sidewalk will be closed on the east side of 15th from Trinity to Central. The sidewalk will also be closed from the SE corner of the 15th Street and Central Avenue intersection heading east on Central.
The contractor will shift lanes to the east side of 15th to accommodate their equipment in the shoulder on the west side of the street. They will also shift lanes to the north on Central Avenue to accommodate their equipment.
Traffic control signs will be in place to direct both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Please obey all signs and slowdown in the construction zone.
Work began June 9 and will be completed by June 21. Crews will begin work daily 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Sherwood Blvd Trenching/Boring Project:
CableCom, LLC will be boring along the sidewalk and across/under Sherwood Boulevard in front of the U.S. Post Office in White Rock beginning June 13. The project should be completed by June 21. Work will take place 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
There will be a flagging operation situated on Longview Drive at the intersection of Sherwood Boulevard. There will also be a flagging operation on Sherwood on both sides of the intersection with stop panels.
There are two active work zones in this location, pedestrian and vehicle traffic are urged to slowdown, read all traffic control devices before proceeding and follow all flagmen in these work zones.

LANL: Bikini Atoll
Starting June 13, crews will work at the entrance to the Receiving and Distribution Center at TA03-0030. Temporary delays are likely on Bikini Atoll as workers perform prep work during the week. Watch for workers 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
LANL: West Rd
Starting June 14 or later, posts and cables will be installed along West Road. Obey the temporary traffic signals and watch for workers.
