Please note the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays. Public Works officials thank the community in advance for their cooperation and patience.
33rd / 34th Street Road and Utility Improvements:
TLC Plumbing and Utility will continue working on the roadway portion of the project: curb drop inlet installation, sidewalk, drive pad and curb and gutter removals.
The Contractor will begin installing the remaining new water line from the intersection of 33rd Street and Villa for approximately 500 feet south of the intersection.
Construction hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The transit bus stop on 33rd will be temporarily closed throughout the duration of the project. Riders can use the transit stop on 35th Street.

Asphalt Patching in the areas of La Vista Street
Weather and materials permitting, crews will continue repairing asphalt in the areas of La Vista Street in White Rock. Work hours will be 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Crews will stop traffic intermittently as they move through the areas. Please watch for flaggers, crews, and equipment.
Countywide Right of Way Maintenance Continues in White Rock in Preparation for the 4th of July Event at Overlook Park
Crews will be mowing, cutting weeds, and trimming tree branches obstructing signs in White Rock on Meadow Lane from Rover Blvd. to Overlook Road. Minimal impacts to traffic are expected. Traffic is asked to watch for crews and traffic control along the roads and sidewalks.
Road and Concrete Work Begins on Barranca Mesa July 5
Traffic and Streets will begin roadwork and concrete work on Barranca Mesa between Loma de Escolar and the roundabout. Work is anticipated to begin July 5 and continue through the month. Road Closure for the 4th of July Celebration Tuesday At Overlook Park
Beginning at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, crews will be placing cones to prevent parking along Meadow Lane from Chamisa Elementary School to Overlook Road and from Overlook to Bryce Avenue.
Residents are asked to remove vehicles from the street along Meadow, Bryce and Overlook to avoid traffic congestion.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, until midnight, Meadow from Overlook to Bryce Avenue will be closed for Atomic City Transit operations, as well as for the safety of pedestrians as they enter the event. Only residents who live in this area will be allowed to enter and exit. No parking along the street will be permitted for safety purposes.

Longview Drive and Sherwood Blvd in White Rock
Kelly Cable of New Mexico will continue work through July 31, 2023. Crews are installing fiber from the northwest corner of Longview Drive and Sherwood Blvd heading east. The sidewalk closure will remain in place south of the White Rock Branch Library just west of the Longview/ Sherwood intersection. Traffic and pedestrians are asked to watch for equipment, crews and obey all traffic devices. Utility Work on East and West Trinity Drive
CableCom, LLC, in association with Sons Communications, will continue boring along the north side of Trinity Drive beginning at 37th Street and continuing toward west Trinity. There will be a lane shift into the median, westbound on Trinity. The sidewalk along the north side of Trinity will be closed from 36th St. to the west side of Trinity. Additionally, on Diamond Drive, the northbound lanes and bike lane from the intersection of West Road to Canyon Road may be impacted. The contractor will attempt to accommodate the bike lane and stage their equipment on the right side of the northbound lane. Field modifications to the bike lanes may be necessary, including a potential need for bicyclists to share the road with motorists. This project will continue through July 10, 2023. Road Closures for The Family YMCA 4th of July Firecracker 5K Fun Run and Parade
The Family YMCA will be hosting their annual Firecracker Fun Run and Parade on July 4, 2023.
The Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. starting at 1450 Iris St. and continuing to 15th Street, then to Canyon Road west to Diamond Drive and back. The Children’s Parade will begin at 10 a.m. and end by 11 a.m. The planned route begins at 1450 Iris St. and continues south on 15th Street to Central Avenue, then west on Central to Ashley Pond Park. A road closure will be in place for the entire parade route.

Road Closure for Woodland Road Block Party
Residents along Woodland Road will be having a 4th of July block party. Woodland will be closed at Club Road and at Country Lane. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be detoured on Country Lane. Road Closure on Grand Canyon, Ridgecrest, Aragon For 4th of July Parade in White Rock
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will host its annual 4th of July Parade and Carnival beginning at 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday. The parade will start at 366 Grand Canyon Drive and head west to Ridgecrest Avenue, then south to Aragon, where they will head north to Grand Canyon and return to 366 Grand Canyon. A road closure will be in place along the entire parade route. Sidewalk Closure on Arkansas Avenue from Diamond Drive to 41st Street
TALA Excavation will be installing a driveway for the new apartments on Arkansas Avenue. Work began June 27 and will continue through Aug. 1, 2023. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured at Diamond Drive to the northeast corner of the intersection. NNSA – Update as of June 23, 2023:
Construction Entered Phase 2 on June 29 for Improvements To N.M. 4/East Jemez Road Intersection
During Phase 2, the following traffic impacts will be in place:
- The southbound right lane of NM 4 will be closed, and traffic will be shifted to the east, with one lane of traffic open in each direction (north and south) to the intersection of NM 4 and East Jemez Road.
- Traffic on East Jemez Road will be shifted to the south, with one lane of traffic open in each direction (east and west).
- Access to the parking area for the Bandelier National Monument Tsankawi Unit remains closed, with no alternative access provided.
- The speed limit throughout the construction area is reduced to 35 miles per hour. PLEASE SLOW DOWN AND OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT.
- Construction on Phase 2 is expected to last about one and one-half to two months, followed by Phases 3 and 4.
During construction, all existing travel lanes on N.M. 4 and E. Jemez Road will remain open during peak travel times – 6:30-8:30 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Any lane closures will occur during non-peak hours and flaggers will direct traffic. All construction is weather permitting and is subject to change without notice.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down and give themselves additional time to reach their destination. More construction phases will follow, with the project expected to be completed in late 2023.
