COUNTY News:

The Public Works/Traffic Division provides the latest updates on the following projects:

Public Works Department:

Diamond Drive near the Golf Course 

A contractor will be conducting soils boring operations alongside Diamond drive at the Golf Course. No traffic impediments are expected, but drivers will see signage and cones along the shoulders alerting them to construction in the area.

Pedestrian and ADA Accessibility Along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street 

Beginning Wednesday, GM Emulsions will start construction along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street, to provide better accessibility by replacing curb and gutter as well as installing ADA compliant sidewalks. To perform this work safely, traffic along Trinity will be shifted around the work zone. Traffic control will include temporary shoulder closures and bicycle and pedestrian detours.

Traffic & Streets Division: 

Road Work on Estates Drive 

County crews will be working Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. to install a concrete valley guetter, pouring concrete around manholes and repairing asphalt. Flagging operations will be in place.

School Zones – Painting Curbs 

County crews will be painting curbs within various school zones throughout the county 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday thriugh Friday.

Other projects: 

N.M. 502 Roundabout Construction and Road Work (State DOT, Star Paving) 

No changes this week to existing detours. Drivers can expect minor delays through the existing work zone 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. A lane shift for traffic is expected the week of Aug. 3; crews will be paving the north side of N.M. 502 in order to accomplish the changeover. The closed section of N.M. 502 between DP Road and Central Avenue (south side of new partial Roundabout) is scheduled to open to 2-way traffic Aug. 3, after which construction will begin on the north side of the roundabout. This phase of construction will require closing Central Avenue and 4th Street. This shift will change the traffic flow on Trinity. Motorists are asked to slow down and be observant as the new change takes effect on Aug. 3. Traffic advisories and updates will be posted on the www.NMroads.com website.

New Crosswalk for Barranca Mesa Elementary School 

Bradbury Stamm will be installing a new crosswalk for the Los Alamos Public Schools at the corner of Camino Encantado and Barranca Road. Work will be underway 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and the project includes a new cross walk from Camino Encantado to the newly constructed bus loop at the School. The sidewalk on the south side of Barranca Road at Camino Encantado will be closed during construction. Contact: Project Superintendent Rosendo Garcia 505.660.2215.

North Mesa Road and San Ildefonso Road Work 

Sons Communications will be closing the sidewalk on the north side of San Ildefonso Rd at the east side of North Mesa Park Road and the west side of Mesa Road. Crews will be boring under San Ildefonso Road to install conduit for coaxial cable. Work will be underway 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Utilities Work at 35th Street/Villa/Diamond Drive

Anytime Plumbing and Sewer, LLC will continue working at 2237 35th St. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Tuesday, 35th Street will be closed to through traffic at Villa Street and on Diamond Drive. Traffic can detour through 36h Street. Contact: Project Manager Tim Sanchez at 505.474.4441.

DP Road (Bethel Development) 

Road work is expected to begin within two weeks for infrastructure installation to support the new Canyon Walk Apartments being constructed on the south side of DP Rd. Milling and paving operations and a detour shift to the north side of DP Rd can be expected with either electronic flagging or one-way access with flaggers during the two month project. Weekly details will be published in the Cone Zone as the road work proceeds, with more details on timing of the work shared on Cone Zone next week.

DP Road (Parcel A-8-b south of Canyon Walk Apartments) (N3B) 

N3B contractors are excavating a utility trench within the A-8-b land parcel until Aug. 19, that will be used to place utilities along DP Road to support the two housing projects to be located there (currently the Canyon Walk Apartments and soon The Bluffs senior housing). No traffic impacts directly affecting DP Road but motorists should watch for trucks and other construction traffic entering and exiting the parcel on the south side of DP Road throughout the work day Monday through Friday, as this area will become congested once the larger DP project described above gets underway.

Vehicles and pedestrian traffic are urged to follow all traffic control devices and maintain a safe distance from the work zones listed above.
