Cone Zone: Week Of July 13, 2020

COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Cone Zone provides a weekly preview of road construction work for the coming week:

N.M. 502 Roundabout & Road Reconstruction (information provided by NMDOT)

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and Star Paving Contractors continue working on N.M. 502 in Los Alamos between Knecht Street and Tewa Loop. Weather permitting, work should be complete in the winter of 2020.

Paving near the intersection of DP Road and Trinity Drive has been completed. Star Paving still has work to complete at the NW corner of the intersection of Knecht Street and Trinity Drive.

Tewa Loop will be closed for approximately 4-5 hours Monday to allow crews to prepare subgrade and place base course for the tie-in to N.M. 502.

Existing detours remain in effect, however, the traffic control on westbound Trinity Drive that had reduced traffic to a single lane from DP Road to the Knecht Street intersection has ended and both westbound lanes are now open to traffic. Drivers can expect minor delays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through the existing work zone.

What’s next?

A lane shift for traffic is expected within the next 2-3 weeks; crews will be paving the north side of N.M. 502 in order to accomplish the change over. Motorists are asked to slow down and be observant as the new change takes effect.

Traffic advisories and updates will be posted on the www.NMroads.com website.

Please use caution in the construction zone. Speeding over the 25mph limit continues to be a safety concern for crews working within these constrained, congested work zones. Be patient and obey all traffic signs. The NMDOT appreciates your cooperation.

Later in July: Trinity Drive Road Work (Public Works/Traffic Division)

Beginning Wednesday, July 29, the County’s contractor, GM Emulsions, will start construction along Trinity Drive from Oppenheimer to 39th Street.

The long-awaited improvements and renovation will provide better accessibility by replacing curb and gutter and installing ADA compliant sidewalks. To perform this work safely, traffic along Trinity will be shifted around the work zone. Traffic control will include temporary shoulder closures and bicycle and pedestrian detours.

Note: this schedule may change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen conditions.

Los Alamos County Public Works Department is committed to the safety of the traveling public and thanks you for your patience and cooperation during these improvements.

Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and access to resident homes as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.
