DP Road Phase II Reconstruction Project Update

TLC Plumbing & Utility work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Parking:

Parking will not be allowed south of DP Road outside designated areas south of Ace Hardware and south of the Los Alamos Fire Training Academy.

Traffic Control:

Crews will continue excavating the joint communication electrical trench between 272 DP Road and 278 DP Road and will begin excavating the crossings of the joint gas and water trench for service lines north and south on DP Road.

New survey marks and staking have been added to the work zone within the business area and caution should be used when crossing the work zone to avoid disturbing markers.

Follow all work zone signs and exercise caution; flaggers may direct traffic during certain construction events.

Access to businesses will be maintained; westbound traffic direction remains unchanged.

Urban Trail Phase I and II Project

Crews will work 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, with possible weekend work if needed.

              • Construction of the Trail continues along the north side of Canyon Road between the Tennis Courts and Aquatic Center.
              • A partial closure of the Nature Center Driveway will be in place, but access will be maintained and the Nature Center remains open.
              • The north shoulder on Canyon remains closed, with two lanes of traffic generally maintained. 
              • Flaggers will be used when lane closures are needed for construction vehicles access to the work areas.
              • Work to construct the boardwalk section of the trail will also continue in the wooded area by the Tennis Courts.

Overlook Park Irrigation Work Continues

The trail section at Overlook Park between Spirio Soccer Field and Softball Field 3 is closed to all traffic, including pedestrians. This closure is necessary for work on interconnecting the irrigation system with the potable water system as a backup to the reclaimed water that is typically used to water the fields. This work is expected to last into October.

County Festival, Fair & Rodeo THIS WEEKEND

Los Alamos County Festival, Fair & Rodeo will be held in downtown Los Alamos and on North Mesa at Brewer Area and the stables Aug. 3-4.

A road closure on Central Ave. will be in place on Saturday, August 3, for the Fair Parade and for the Festival and Fair downtown. The closure will be in place from early morning until the event concludes. Additional details will be provided in next week’s Cone Zone.

In addition to the closure, motorists are asked to be cautious and slowdown in the downtown and stable areas due to the significant increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic for the event.

Road closure on the east end of Loma del Escolar at Barranca road continues Crews have closed the east end of Loma de Escolar at Barranca Road to make safety improvements to existing ADA ramps before school starts. The west end of Loma de Escolar will be open to local traffic. Sidewalks along the north side of Barranca Road and within the construction zone of Loma del Escolar will be closed to pedestrians. Access to residential properties will be maintained.

Due to weather conditions, this project will continue through Aug. 12. Work will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Crack Sealing continues in the North Community

Under contract with Los Alamos County, Dismuke Construction will begin crack sealing in the following North Community areas, weather permitting: Woodland Road, 35th St., 36th St., Alabama Ave., Yucca Street, 48th Street, 47th Steet, 45th Street and Club Road. Moving flagging operations may exist.

This project started in early June but was halted due to rain. Weather permitting, work will continue 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 16.

Non-County Projects: 

The following construction projects are not funded by Los Alamos County. Updates are included to keep residents informed of potential traffic impacts. Questions should be directed to the parties identified within each description. Please obey all traffic devices and slowdown in work zones.  

Concrete Work on 35th Street off Trinity Drive Continues 

In association with Pavilion Construction, as part of the scope of work for the Hills Apartment Complex and the realignment of 35th St. at Trinity Drive (NM 502), work continues to install sidewalks, curb and gutter, and other concrete work along 35th Street off Trinity Drive. A lane shift will remain in place until the work is completed.

Work will continue through August, daily beginning at 7 a.m. and finishing by 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and weekends as needed.
