Cone Zone: Week Of Aug. 3

Note: the below information is based on a schedule provided by the contractors and may change due to weather or other delays.

Western Area Improvements Phase 3:

Roadway and utility work continues on 43rd Street (north and south) and 44th Street (north and south) which includes water line tie ins and concrete work. Sidewalks from cul-de-sacs (43rd south and 44th south) are under construction; pedestrians are asked to use other routes into park. Pathway from 43rd north to Ridgeway will be under construction.

Roads will be closed except for local residents and emergency vehicles.

20th Street/Fuller Lodge Improvements:

Star Paving will continue construction on 20th Street and the Fuller Lodge Parking lot Improvement Projects. 

The Contractor will be closing the south bound lane and begin demolition of curb and gutter, asphalt and sidewalks on the west side of 20th Street. Pedestrians will need to use the east side of the street.

The north bound lane will remain open for business access.  Motorists may experience flagging operations and minimal delays.

The secondary Fuller Lodge Parking Lot has been demolished. The contactor will begin installing electrical conduit for lighting and new curb and gutter. This parking lot will remain closed except for Thursday morning during the Farmers’ Market at which time it will be made accessible for parking.

Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.

Sherwood Blvd. /La Vista Drive:

RMCI, Inc. will begin work on Sherwood Blvd. on Monday, August 3rd. RMCI will begin setting up traffic control and setting up BMPs for Storm Water Pollution Management.  Utility verification will also be taking place and RMCI will also continue mobilizing equipment and material for the project.

Improvements will include full road reconstruction from NM 4 to the Cañada del Buey tributary, just north of Aztec Ave. consisting of new asphalt driving surface including curb, gutter, street lighting, irrigation, and landscaping that includes new trees in accordance with the White Rock Center Master Plan.   Six foot wide sidewalks will replace the current four foot sidewalks and along with the new landscaping, will provide a unified streetscape.

RMCI, Inc. will begin demolition of existing pavement, curb and gutter, removal of existing landscape irrigation system and plantings.  The existing trees on the east side of Sherwood were examined by a horticulturist and it was determined that the trees are at the end of their life span. Seven ash trees and one Siberian (aka Chinese) elm tree will be removed and replaced with fifteen Accolade hybrid elms. 

Improvements to La Vista Drive include extending the roadway north of NM 4 and installing utility infrastructure, i.e. sanitary sewer, water, gas, and electric, to service future developed areas of the site.  Roadway infrastructure will include sidewalks, landscape buffers, curb, gutter, storm drains, bike lanes, driving lanes and street lighting.  The project also includes sidewalk installation along the north side of NM 4 from Sherwood Blvd. to La Vista. Information regarding commencement of work at La Vista Drive will be provided at a later date.  

Asphalt Resurfacing in White Rock:

Starting Monday August 3, asphalt resurfacing activities will start in White Rock on the following streets:  Meadow Lane (Overlook Road to Grand Canyon), Todd Loop, Glenview Drive, Glenview Court, Kris Court, Kimberly Lane (Rover Blvd. south to cul-de-sac), Valle Del Sol, Kendall Drive, Paul Place, Jeffery Place, Page Loop, Page Court, Pruitt Avenue and Hamlin Court.  Door hangers will be distributed to residents living on the affected streets at least 48 hours in advance.  The anticipated duration for this resurfacing project is 2 weeks.
