Cone Zone: Road Construction Week of Sept. 8

COUNTY News:

Road Construction Update: Week of Sept. 8

For more information about the projects listed below, e-mail lacpw@lacnm.us, call 505.662.8150, or visit the “Projects” link at www.losalamosnm.us. Please slow down and use caution within the construction work zones.

Pavement Preservation Work in White Rock:

Chip material has been applied on Hamlin Court, Pruitt, Paige Loop and Paige Court in White Rock. The final sealant will be applied in mid to late September. The reason for the delay before sealing is to allow the chips to settle; any remaining loose chips will be swept up before the sealant is applied. Residents will receive 48 hour notice before the final sealant is applied on their street.

Central Avenue Improvements Project:

The contractor is reporting that pedestrians are crossing into the work zone instead of at the provided crossings; this is extremely dangerous and pedestrians are advised to use the provided pathways.

The sidewalk on the north side of Central Avenue between the Post Office driveway and the Ashley Pond crosswalk will be closed to allow for the installation of a storm drain pipe; pedestrians will be routed to the south side of Central.

The contractor also will be trenching west of Bathtub Row through the southernmost parking spaces in the library overflow parking lot (Farmers Market location). The contractor will backfill any open trenches to allow for full access by the Farmers Market vendors.

Friday, Sept. 12, the contractor will close the Post Office driveway in the late afternoon and reopen the driveway early Monday morning.

Paving of Central between 15th and 20th is currently scheduled for Sept. 18.

There is now pedestrian access on both sides of Central Avenue with crossings near Starbucks and another midblock crossing near Metzger’s. Central Avenue continues to be fully closed to motorists between 15th Street and the Post Office driveway. Access to the Post Office will be maintained (with the exception mentioned above). Vehicles are detoured to Deacon Street and the Main Street driveway into Central Park Square is also closed.

Motorists should use alternate business parking including those along Deacon, 15th Street, 20th Street and Nectar.

The contractor continues working day and night crews Monday through Thursdays in an effort to complete this section of the project as quickly as possible. Friday and weekend work may occur as needed.

Western Area Improvements Phase 2:

Work is complete on 45th Street 46th Street. Concrete removals are complete on 47th Street off Trinity. Concrete placement will continue into next week followed by roadway grading in preparations for paving operations. Expect traffic control to change as the work progresses.

On 46th/47th Street off Sandia, demolition of curb and gutters and drivepads will begin on Monday with concrete placement following. Expect traffic control to change as the work progresses.

Paving operations are currently scheduled for the week of September 15th.

Access to residences as well as services such as mail delivery, emergency services, trash and recycling collection will be maintained.

Sound Wall between Tewa Loop and Airport Road:

Shoulder work continues on the south side of East Drive; please do not park on the south side of East Drive. Work is on track to be completed on or before September 19.

Upcoming Work:

As part of the annual Pavement Preservation Program, in September Diamond Drive will be slurry sealed from the roundabout to North Road/Ridgeway area. This work will include lane closures and minor delays – watch for more information in future updates!
