Community Invited To Multicultural Festival March 15

The community is invited to attend the10th annual Multicultural Festival, Around the World in White Rock. This year the event is 5 p.m. Wedensday, March 15 at Piñon Elementary School.

Presented jointly by Chamisa Elementary and Piñon Elementary Schools, the festival features dance, music, games, crafts and food tastings. This year will feature Brazil, Chile, China, Ethiopia, France, Germany, India, Korea, Norway, Uzbekistan and Cochiti Pueblo.

There also will be performances by Elias Davila, a hoop dancer from San Ildefonso Pueblo, Dance Arts Los Alamos Scottish Highland dancers and Flamenco dancers, a classical dance from India by the Los Alamos Family Y Kathak class, African drummer Akeem Ayanniyi Agalu, and the Chamisa and Piñon Choirs. The evening will conclude with a song performed by school staff.

Stephanie Rittner, Piñon Elementary School’s art teacher, is this year’s fair coordinator. Andrea Lynch, Chamisa Elementary School’s art teacher, Megan Tholen, Chamisa Elementary’s choir director, and Piñon Elementary School Choir Director Nic Montoya-Valdez are co-coordinators.

The event was started by teachers Renee Mitsunaga and Julie Bulthuis as a way to celebrate the diversity of Los Alamos County and the surrounding communities.

This event is free and open to the public.
