FSN News:
Family Strengths Network and Los Alamos Early Childhood Collaboration (LAECC, formerly BabyNet) invites parents, caregivers, and early childhood professionals to attend the Infant Mental Health Workshop on trauma-responsive care. Early childhood professionals can receive a certificate for 1.5 CEUs.
Together, we will learn about how early traumas, as well as disruptions in caregiving relationships, affect the developing brain. We will explore how the developmental timing of trauma matters, and how to use this understanding to best support infants, young children, and their families. Through a neurodevelopmental lens, we will gain insight into the potential origins and meanings of common behaviors seen in early childhood, from feeding and sleep challenges to tantrums and hitting. With this understanding in mind, we will highlight available community resources, and discuss when and where to refer families for additional support.
Who should attend? Everyone who works directly with young children and with their families who is interested in understanding and responding to infant mental health issues is invited to attend this workshop. This workshop is appropriate for parents, early childhood educators and educational aids, babysitters, daycare providers, medical professionals and allied health providers, professional childcare providers, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, physical therapists, mental health therapists, home visitors, doulas… you!
