Community Invited To ‘A Light Shining In The Darkness’

By Pastor Nicolé Raddu Ferry
Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church

Greetings dear community of Los Alamos,

This is an invitation for you to attend or to invite a friend to spaces that may be helpful during this time of year.

In the midst of our flurry of festivities it is very easy to forget that some people have pain and depression amid the many celebrations that are happening during this time of year. Our lives do have many losses in the form of a death of a loved one, divorce, losing a job, continued struggles with health including the residual struggles with COVID and yet there is a light that shines in the darkness.

This service will be a time of reflection, silence, and community. Our hope lies in remembering that God is present in all times and in all places.

You have opportunities on the following days and in the following places:

  • White Rock Presbyterian Church, 310 Rover Blvd. “Service of Grief, Lament, and Hope” Sunday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. with The Rev. Deb Beloved.
  • Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2390 North Road. “Light Shining in the Darkness” Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. with Pastors Nicolé Ferry and Kate Schlechter.
  • The Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith, 311 E. Palace Ave., Santa Fe. “Holy Dark, Holy Light” Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. with Mother Lynn Finnegan.

Please consider attending one of these gatherings for yourself or with a loved one and consider taking this ad to invite someone who may need this time and this space. We know that personal invitations are much more likely to be received and acted on and we pray that you will invite someone in your family or in your community to join one of these spaces.

Please remember that you may attend one of these services even if you have not lost someone you loved in this past year. For some who have attended in the past, they felt closure from old losses that they imagined were resolved or they simply revisited and remembered those they have lost with love. And for some, it is a time to just breathe. This is a time to just “be” in the comforting presence of our God who loves us unconditionally. This is a time to live in the peace we hope for throughout our world.

Thank you so much for supporting this invitation and we pray that you will join us to remember.

God’s peace,

Pastor Nicolé Raddu Ferry
