The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874 at 1793 Deacon St. in Los Alamos hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony Monday in memory of those who served and in honor of those serving now.

Cmdr. Roger Anaya of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874 served as Master of Ceremonies and introduced guests and speakers including Guest of Honor Edmond Keith, Col USAF (Ret). Dist. 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard read a State Proclamation followed by a County Proclamation read by Council Chair Geoff Rodgers to mark the special day.

Rachel Anaya, Jeff Kolski and Clara Szymanski performed “America the Beautiful” and “Amazing Grace.” Brownie Troop 10357 performed “Thank You, Soldiers” composed by Michael and Angela Souders.

Los Alamos High School NJROTC presented a Three Volley Salute and the American Legion Post 90 performed Taps. Father Glenn Jones of Immaculate Heart of Mary, a former captain in the United States Marine Corps., delivered the Invocation and Benediction for Monday’s event.  

The Color Guards were furnished by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, The American Legion Post 90, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 90, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 90, American Legion Riders Post 90 Chapter 19, Los Alamos High School NJROTC, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2083, Knights of Columbus Assembly 0688, Military Order of the World Wars Chapter 229, Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Participants and guests at Monday’s Veterans Day Ceremony were treated to lunch at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874.
