Warm Water Weekend at Aquatic Center. Dec. 1 and 2

PEEC Ancho Rapids to Red Dot Hike. 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec 1. Join Paul Arendt for a beautiful winter hike in White Rock Canyon. Hikers will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the bottom of Piedra Loop (where hikers park for the Red Dot Trail.) Car pool to a parking area ~ 3 miles south of White Rock. Binoculars are recommended to observe waterfowl at several viewpoints above the Rio. Total hike time ~ 5.5 hours; 7 miles.  Moderate difficulty. Bring water and lunch.

Affordable Arts 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through Jan. 5 at Fuller Lodge Art Center. Affordable Arts has been a holiday tradition in Los Alamos for more than 25 years. With a “Home for the Holidays” theme, the Art Center offers unique, quality artwork from 125 different artists priced $1 to $250. With wall art (paintings, photos, carvings), pottery, jewelry, hand-made pens and cards and more there is something for everyone.

Pet Pangaea’s Annual Santa Paws (photos of pets with Santa) Noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2.
All pets and kids are welcome. Donations to Friends of the Shelter are appreciated. Participants receive a digital photo.
The photos are taken in a separate, quiet area on a set in Pet Pangaea’s back office and they call numbers. So, if you have a shy pet, don’t worry- they won’t have to stand in line with a bunch of other pets. All pets welcome. Bearded dragons even want to tell Santa what they want!

Christmas Craft Workshop 1 – 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec 2 at First Baptist Church 2200 Diamond Dr. Come enjoy a FREE afternoon of crafting and spiced cider. There will be instructors and supplies for a number of craft projects, including: desserts, bow tying, do-it-yourself gifts, homemade ornaments, crocheting, and more!

Reptiles and Amphibians of New Mexico. 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. Come to PEEC to meet some local reptiles and amphibians you might find on the Pajarito Plateau. Scott Bulgrin, President of the New Mexico Herpetological Society, will give a presentation on New Mexico Reptiles and Amphibians.  He’ll also have a few friends with him, including toads, turtles, lizards, and snakes.

Holiday Eco Crafts. 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 5 at PEEC Kids in grades K-4 are invited to this popular holiday class at PEEC. Crafts will include pinecone fire-starters, notebooks, cornhusk dolls, tree cookie ornaments, rock carvings, and more! Plenty of materials will be available to make perfect, practical gifts for parents, grandparents, and siblings. While parents get a break to shop locally (or in PEEC’s own gift shop), kids can make and wrap presents. $15/$12 PEEC members.

Fairy Tales and Fantasies Holiday Lights Parade 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Mainstreet Winter Fest Light Parade on Central Avenue followed by lighting of a tree at Ashley Pond.

The Second Annual Community Holiday Prism Concert by Los Alamos Community Winds. 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec 8 @ Crossroads Bible Church following the Holiday Lights Parade on Central Avenue. $10 per person suggested donation.

Light Among the Ruins: Jemez State Monument.  5 p.m. Saturday, Dec 8. The ruins of Giusewa Pueblo and San José de los Jémez mission church will be decorated with hundreds of traditional luminarias. The evening’s program will include traditional Native American flute music and Jémez Pueblo dancers’ performance between two illuminating bon-fires. Enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides from Jémez Springs Park to the Monument and holiday refreshments.  Free admission!
