Churro Sheep Shearing Event At Los Luceros Historic Site

NMDCA News:

The community is invited to join expert sheep-shearer Kerry Mower 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 11, as he brings his traditional shears to the coats of Los Luceros Historic Site (LLHS) and observe how Española Fiber Arts skirt the wool to clean and choose the best wool for weaving.

Additionally, LLHS will hold a Ranger Talk about the history of Churro sheep in New Mexico at 11 a.m. and create some Churro sheep wool crafts.

This event is included in site admission: $7 adult, children 16 and under are free.

This is an opportunity to learn about the history and importance of Churro sheep in New Mexico — join a ranger to hear why they are at Los Luceros Historic Site, see how they are sheared and their wool is processed, and have fun making sheep wool-based crafts.
