The Chevron Gas Station at 2373 Trinity Dr. has closed down. Boards were placed over the windows and doors on the building Thursday and a chain link fence enclosing the property was installed Friday.

“It was underperforming and not profitable so we closed it down,” said Gary Hanson of Western Refining, Inc., adding that the property was actually a Giant station selling products under the Chevron name.

Hanson said their lease on the property ends in February but they decided to shut down the operation now. Local records indicate that Western Refining has settled its utilities bill with Los Alamos County and that account is now closed.

“We also operate the Giant on Arkansas but that station is performing well and meeting our expectations so we have no plans to close it,” Hanson said.

Western Refining has been leasing the property at 2373 Trinity Dr., in Los Alamos from Polk Oil, a privately held company headquartered in Espanola. Requests for comment to Polk Oil have not yet been returned.

Western Refining is an independent refining and marketing company with its corporate office in El Paso, Texas. The refining segment operates refineries in El Paso and Gallup. The retail segment includes retail service stations, convenience stores, and unmanned fleet fueling locations in New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas.
