Cheryl Rofer Speaks on Win-Win Solutions for Expanding Nuclear Power

Staff Report

LANL Retiree Cheryl Rofer will speak on “Win-Win Nonproliferation Solutions for Expanding Nuclear Power.”

The talk will be given at an open meeting of the Los Alamos Committee on Arms Control and International Security at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, in the Lounge at the Education Building of United Church, 2525 Canyon Road in Los Alamos.

Nuclear power is expected to expand in response to increasing need for electricity and decreasing carbon emissions. The danger of proliferation of nuclear weapons can expand in parallel.

Those involved in nuclear power often see nonproliferation as an enemy, and vice versa. The likely expansion of nuclear power requires both to work together, Rofer said.
