Chartwells Names Patrick Jaramillo Class Act

Class Act winner Patrick Jaramillo

COMMUNITY News:

Patrick Jaramillo is always a class act when it comes to Chartwells Food Services, but as we start a decade it’s now part of his official title.

Chartwells K12, the school food service arm of Compass Group International has named Patrick Jaramillo a Class Act winner for the West Region.

The Class Act program is one of the company’s greatest opportunities to highlight employee contributions. Those who exceed standards to constantly serve happy and healthy to students every day, always rise to the top.

“I’m extremely proud of the progress Patrick has made professionally,” Dining Services Director Laurence Pena said. “He continually takes the initiative and fosters a great relationship with our most important clients, the kids. He knows his students on a first name basis and they often will come to him or other staff members to praise the food.”

Pena calls Jaramillo instrumental in the transition of Aspen Elementary to a Zero Waste Cafeteria. Jaramillo took the helm at Aspen and forged a new goal to utilize the kitchen like never before. Now, all food sold at Aspen is produced in the Aspen kitchen. He worked to take the lead in a special, “Taste of Aspen” event and encourages culinary exploration for all students.

Jaramillo introduces new fruits and vegetables on the school’s low-rise salad bar, which has become a shining star of his program. He serves as kitchen manager, having only been with Chartwells for over a year and a half. He began driving the delivery route, which serviced six of the Chartwells seven sites. He worked tirelessly during the free summer lunch program, which forged his path to kitchen manager.

Chartwells K12 has been a proud partner with the Los Alamos Public School District for three years. The Chartwells Eat* Learn* Live* philosophy guides all Chartwells team members to reach that promise each day.

Employees are able to focus on the whole child by offering safe spaces for all, and by developing key partnerships that support students and staff. The LAPS food service program has been under the guidance of Laurence Pena for the last 18 months.
