New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) has set two health requirements for public schools to be allowed to transition to hybrid instruction. The respective county must meet two gating criteria: (1) seven-day average for daily diagnoses below 8 per 100,000 people, and (2) testing positivity rate below 5 percent. As of Sept. 18, all but seven counties in New Mexico meet these gating criteria. Thus far, about 65 elementary schools with approximately 12,500 students have transitioned to hybrid instruction.
