CHAMBER News:
The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon cutting block party 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 to celebrate the completion of the road construction on Central Avenue between 15th & 20th Streets.
“We not only want to note the completion of Phase 1 of the road and curb improvements,” Chamber Manager Nancy Partridge said. “But we want to remind the public of the many unique products, services and resources that are in the stores in our downtown district.”
The 90-minute block party will kick off at 10 a.m. with sidewalk sales, free samples, booths, and face painting. Retailers like Metzger’s Hardware, Ruby K’s Bagel Café, Fusion MultiSport, Manhattan Project Restaurant and CB FOX will all participate. The festivities will continue with speeches from local dignitaries at 10:30 a.m., followed by the official ribbon cutting at 10:45 a.m..
“We would like to invite the public to be part of a ‘cash mob’ to show support of the businesses by filling the stores and doing some Saturday shopping as soon as the ribbon is cut,” Partridge said.
The block party will continue with music by the Hill Stompers while people shop, eat and mingle. At 11:30 a.m., the street will be cleared and open for vehicle traffic.
During the block party Central Avenue will be temporarily closed from 15th Street to Oppenheimer. Parking for the event will be available at Central Park Square, Metzger’s Hardware and Deacon Street. Trinity Drive and Canyon Drive will be the best routes into downtown.
The Central Avenue improvements include mill and overlay of asphalt, upgrades to all sidewalk ramps to ADA standards, the addition of another crosswalk, concrete pedestrian crossings and tree replacement. Los Alamos MainStreet provided $70,000 worth of funding for the planters, benches, bike racks and pedestrian lighting.
The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is a program of the Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation (LACDC), a private, not-for-profit economic and community development organization serving Los Alamos since 1983.
