Celebrate Ancestral Roots To The Land This Earth Day At Jemez Historic Site

NMDCA News:

Celebrate Earth Day with a variety of fun activities including a hike, traditional children’s games, an “artifact” dig, pottery demonstrations, bread baking in the horno, and Native arts and crafts vendors.

This year, Jemez Historic Site celebrates Earth Day in a big way.  From 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Saturday, April 18, we’ll be leading a guided 3.2-mile hike up Oak Canyon (a.k.a. Church Canyon) to teach about native plants, birds, and animals. The event will also include a pottery demonstration where you can make your own pottery. You can paint flowerpots and take home a daisy plant in your finished pot. Watch, and taste, Pueblo bread baking in the horno, or outdoor adobe oven.

Local Native artisans will be selling their wares, and the Friends of Coronado and Jemez Historic Sites will give out free hot dogs and beverages as part of their customer appreciation day. All activities are included with regular admission of $7 for adults and free to children 16 years and younger, Tribal members, NM disabled veterans, and NM foster families.

Enjoy the outdoors and learn about the many ways that Pueblo people connect to and celebrate the earth through a variety of hands-on activities.
