AHS News:
Saturday, June 6, 2026, American Hiking Society invites hundreds of thousands across the nation to step onto the trails for the 34th annual National Trails Day®.
This annual event unites hikers, cyclists, paddlers, equestrians, trail organizations, public land agencies, nonprofits, and businesses, all with a shared mission: to keep any trail, anywhere better than you found it. The Nation’s 250th Celebration and American Hiking’s 50th Anniversary makes 2026 the best year yet to take part in National Trails Day® by hosting or attending an event and sharing about NTD across social media and all digital communications.
National Trails Day® is an annual call to action, prompting trail enthusiasts to engage in trail maintenance projects, advocate for trails and public lands, and participate in cleanups and outdoor education events. In a time when outdoor spaces require our attention more than ever, American Hiking Society calls on individuals of all ages and abilities to reconnect with nature, their communities, and the great outdoors!
Get Involved: Three Simple Actions
Everyone is encouraged to be a part of this national movement by contributing to their local trails through three simple actions:
- Join: Find or register a local event to participate in.
- Pledge: Commit to leaving trails and outdoor communities better than you found them. American Hiking offers straightforward ways to make a positive impact.
- Connect & Share: Share your commitment by tagging #NationalTrailsDay and @AmericanHiking on social media.
American Hiking Society invites individuals and organizations to register their events free of charge at NationalTrailsDay.org or locate existing events to join. Hosting a National Trails Day® event provides an opportunity for the outdoor community to give back to the natural spaces they cherish. Event registration remains open until June 6, but early registration by May 5 is encouraged to allow participants ample time for planning. Together, let’s make a significant collective impact and leave our trails better than we found them.
In 2025, over 66,688 individuals engaged in activities at nearly 943 locations across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. More than 6,057 volunteers contributed to building and maintaining 758 miles of trails. Join us in continuing this positive impact June 6, 2026!
