ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

In this series, Carla Caletti explores her inner world by drawing on memories and connections to nature and her ancestors. She weaves fragments from the past and the spaces in between, bringing them into the present as abstract figurative narratives.

The resurrection of these diverse elements leads to new forms and associations, each existing within a similar yet unique setting and language. It is in this space that Caletti’s abstract figurative works come together to create a personal mythology rooted in safety, protection, care, hope, love, and prayers for the world at large.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Carla Caletti is a self-taught artist originally from Sonoma County, California. She works with acrylic paint, wax, paper, fabric and occasionally found materials to create her art. While living in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she resided for over 30 years, she began making trips to New Mexico starting in 1985, traveling in her 1968 Volvo named Lilian. Just before the COVID pandemic, she relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she now calls home.

Caletti has showcased her work in both commercial and non-profit galleries. She has created pop-up exhibits, produced street art, and curated group exhibitions, including “One World, Many Faiths: Altars by Bay Area Women Artists.” For seventeen years, she served as a Día de los Muertos installation artist at the SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. Since relocating to Santa Fe in 2019, she has been very active in her artistic pursuits, which include two solo exhibitions of her work: one at Strata Gallery in April 2024 and another at El Zaguan in February 2025.
