Canyon Rim Trail Underpass Construction Begins March 29

COUNTY News:

Beginning Monday March 29, crews with AUI, Inc. of Albuquerque will begin work to construct the Canyon Rim Trail Underpass.

The project includes extension of the 10-ft. wide hard surface trail connecting the terminus of the

Canyon Rim Trail and existing trailhead to Entrada Drive beneath N.M. 502 via a reinforced concrete box structure.

Due to the amount of construction activity that includes trenching, excavation and utility relocation near the trailhead, the trailhead parking lot and a 100-ft. section of the trail near the trailhead will be closed for safety.

During this first week of construction, crews also will be working along the westbound and eastbound shoulders of N.M. 502 to clear and remove vegetation, but no vehicular travel lanes will be impacted at this time.

Traffic signs and devices will be installed.

Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians and are advised to stay alert for construction personnel and equipment and use caution traveling through the work zone.

The project is funded through a Federal Transportation Alternatives grant and County Capital Improvement Project funds and is scheduled for completion in late October.
