Camp May Road Closed For Phase 3 Of Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project

COUNTY News:

Beginning June 15, the entirety of Camp May Road, Camp May, and adjacent trails will be closed from Monday through Thursday, until the end of the Jemez Mountain Fire Protection Project, anticipated in December. The roadway will remain open Friday through Sunday for recreational access at the ski hill.

The road closure is necessary to allow the contractor Dub-L-EE, LLC the safety, the security and the space to complete the project on time.

Phase 3 includes the construction of four water booster stations and running cables for the new underground fiber and electric distribution system. To avoid unnecessary land disturbance, the contractor will minimize the space needed for construction activities, including making space for additional traffic.

“While we have been up there doing inspections on the project, we have encountered a number of vehicles barreling around curves and not using caution or observing the posted speed limit,” Senior Project Manager Ernesto Gallegos remarked.

Additionally, Dub-L-EE will be utilizing pull-offs along Camp May Road as staging areas for construction materials and equipment. These areas will be flagged off. Recreationalists are advised to avoid these areas and use caution during weekend use.

The contractor is required to maintain access for fire and rescue, especially during imposed fire restrictions. Reducing unnecessary traffic during periods of active construction will ensure quick access for any fire response. For up-to-date project information, visit www.ladpu.com/JMFPP.

Pajarito Mountain is installing water pipelines and conducting lift repairs on much of the mountain as well. Guests are asked to use the Townsight trails for hiking and refrain from hiking on the main trails off Aspen and Mother lifts. Learn more about the transformation at www.pajarito.ski.

Camp May will not be open for the 2026 season. Recreationalists and visitors can still access Pajarito Mountain and the surrounding trails from Friday morning through Sunday evening.
