Mobile Bike Works Santa Fe launched its Los Alamos service on May 10 by helping sponsor the YIMBY Film Festival, a sold-out evening of cycling-related films benefiting Tuff Tykes Bike Club, at the SALA Event Center. The enthusiastic turnout was a reminder of how much Los Alamos cares about cycling.

“Riders in Los Alamos are passionate about their bikes but haven’t had their own bike shop for a while,” Co-owner Todd Baribault said. I’m excited to start offering expert, local service and getting them back on the trails and roads.”

Baribault explained that he developed a passion for bikes as a kid. After college, he began working on bikes professionally, learning a great deal about the mechanical side of bikes at shops in Vermont, California and Hawaii. After moving to Santa Fe in 2020, he decided to open his own with the added twist of providing the convenience of a mobile shop for his customers. Now with five years in business in Northern New Mexico and more than 15 years of mechanical expertise, he offers a full range of services “to make sure bikes are fixed right the first time”.

“Most days it’s a great way to earn a living,” Baribault said of the business he opened with his wife, Caroline Knapp, in January 2021 in Santa Fe, and is now expanding to Los Alamos. “Our Mobile Bike Works brings expert mechanic services right to your doorstep,” Baribault said. “With a fully outfitted mobile bike shop, I’ll have you rolling, ripping, or cruising again in no time.”

Riders appreciate not only the first-rate mechanical knowledge but also the convenience of having the bike shop come to them, he said. The mobile shop is a high-roof Ford Transit van equipped to handle most bike and ebike repairs conveniently at the customer’s home, office, or anywhere in between.

“We have an extensive menu of mountain bike service options, including the ability to service most suspension components in-house,” Baribault said. “We stock most common service parts and have dealer accounts with SRAM, Quality Bicycle Products, FOX, and many others, to ensure quick access to a full range of parts, so you can get your rig back in action quickly. We also offer classes, mountain bike rentals, and guided rides.”

How it works

Call, text, email, or schedule online to book the service needed and at the time that works best. Los Alamos and White Rock service is scheduled for Wednesdays. Visit www.mobilebikeworkssantafe.com, to learn more and book a service.

“I’ll come out in my mobile bike shop and do the work right in your driveway—or pick your bike up and bring it back when it’s ready to ride,” Baribault said.
