Bregman Campaign: New Poll Shows Democratic Gubernatorial Primary Shifting As Voters Seek Answers, Debate

Gubernatorial candidate Sam Bregman

From the Sam Bregman For Governor Campaign:

ALBUQUERQUE — A new poll conducted by the Sam Bregman for Governor campaign shows significant movement in the Democratic primary, with frontrunner Deb Haaland’s support slipping below a majority threshold and voters signaling they want answers to questions surrounding her past campaign association with convicted sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein since it was revealed that Haaland flew in a jet chartered by Epstein and her 2014 campaign took over $30,000 in contributions from Epstein and his associates.

The survey of nearly 700 likely Democratic primary voters indicates growing volatility in the race and an opening for Bregman’s message of detailed policy leadership and accountability.

According to the poll:

  • Haaland’s support has dropped below 50 percent to 46%;
  • Only about half of Haaland supporters say they are firmly committed to voting for her – representing just 24 percent of the total electorate, a 5-point decline from last month;
  • 81 percent of voters say they want answers regarding her campaign’s past ties to Jeffrey Epstein and reported fundraising outreach connected to him; and
  • Bregman leads 43 percent to 39 percent among voters (52% of respondents) who have seen his recent campaign advertisement.

“The numbers tell a clear story: this race is moving,” said Jon Lipschutz, Bregman campaign manager. “Voters are beginning to pay attention, they want transparency, and they’re responding to Sam’s record and vision for New Mexico.”

The campaign also renewed its call for a debate between the candidates. Bregman formally issued a debate challenge to Haaland in September—167 (confirm #) days ago when he released a comprehensive 189-page policy platform addressing 13 (confirm #) challenges, including public safety, economic development, education, water security, healthcare, and affordability. Since then, Haaland has released two policy proposals – on education and affordability and refused to publicly debate Bregman

“New Mexicans deserve a real conversation between Deb Haaland and me about our visions and plans for our state,” Bregman said. “I’ve put forward a detailed, serious plan. If we’re going to lead New Mexico, we should be willing to stand on a stage together and debate our ideas.”

With the primary approaching, the Bregman campaign says the momentum is shifting toward a competitive and substantive contest focused on leadership, transparency, and results.
