After a 7 year hiatus, the District Championship title once again returns to Los Alamos. On Monday 5/4 the Hilltopper boys traveled to Arroyo Del Oso Golf Course in Albuquerque for the NMAA District 2 4A Boys Championship Tournament.

The Hilltoppers played well and recorded a team score of 311 securing the District title ahead of Albuquerque Academy (328) and Hope Christian (352). The Hilltoppers were led by Mikey Velasquez-Saiz (JR) who shot a 1 under par (71), crowning Velasquez-Saiz individual District Champion. He finished 5 strokes ahead of his closest competitor.

The rest of the team remained consistent with Lincoln Hoffer (SO) recording a 79, Angus Smith (JR) 80, Javan Rael (SO) 81 and Noah Romero (JR) finished with an 88. The key to the young Hilltoppers success has been a strong team bond, hard work and dedication to their craft. Each tournament this season has revealed a different leader from the team creating trust in one another. The boys know each member will show up and do their best, not just for themselves but for the team.

Coach Hoffer and The Hilltoppers are hoping to ride this momentum into the NMAA State 4A championship tournament held in Socorro next Monday and Tuesday (5/11-12).
