NMDCA News:

Join the New Mexico History Museum from 5:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, June 13, for a special presentation by local author, historian, and tour guide Garrett Peck for a look back at the LGBTQ+ history of New Mexico.

Garrett Peck’s presentation, “Bohemian Santa Fe in the Roaring Twenties,” will have a special focus on a formative era in Santa Fe. Peck will explore how the rise of the art colony, queer life in the City Different, and the social scene during Prohibition all intersected. This event is presented in partnership with the Santa Fe Human Rights Alliance, as part of their “Shoulders We Stand On” initiative, and it is co-sponsored by the City of Santa Fe Office of Economic Development.

Many people are unrepresented in the historical record and their stories are lost to time. LGBTQ+ people were integral to changes in Santa Fe during the 20th century, but they are not always included or centered in foundational narratives. This program is a chance to connect audiences to a fuller picture of lived experiences during the 1920s.

Late-Night Fridays at the museum offers visitors a chance to enjoy after-hours activities and programming from 5-7 p.m. Admission is free to New Mexico residents; regular admission applies to non-residents.
