The 2023 Los Alamos Summer Concerts presented by Toyota of Santa Fe, kicks off this Friday, May 26 at Ashley Pond Park in Los Alamos. The nationally acclaimed, Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters have opened for American music icons such as Willie Nelson, ZZ Top, and Los Lobos. Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters were founded in 2007 by Billy Bob Thornton (often credited as W.R. Thornton when with the band) and sound engineer J.D. Andrew. The band’s distinct rockabilly sound is not only influenced by distinct Americana roots, but from a fusion of 60’s rock of the British invasion era. The Beatles, Beach Boys, and Byrds all figure heavily into the unique vibe of the band’s extensive discography. The meaning within the music is deeply personal, coming from a place that clearly feels familiar and real to listeners.
Friday’s performance is made possible by a wonderful sponsorship group that includes Longenecker and Associates, Merrick, SMSI, the Pueblo Alliance, and TechSource. “We’re excited to help sponsor this concert and give back to the community of Los Alamos,” said Longenecker & Associates Program Manager Lindsay Wallace. “Longenecker & Associates is proud to support the important national security and legacy cleanup missions underway at Los Alamos National Laboratory. DK and the Affordables will be opening for Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters at 6 p.m. With a song list made to get you moving and grooving. DK and the Affordables have become a mainstay of the local Los Alamos music scene. As in past years, several local organizations and non-profits will be exhibiting near the stage at Nonprofit Row. There will be youth activities like face-painting, volleyball, and a small video game arcade. The overall look and feel of the 2023 will be consistent with the vibe that locals have come to know and love since Sancre Productions took over the series in 2019 – the main reason why the series is now the BEST FREE Summer Concert Series in the state of New Mexico. Expected attendance for Billy Bob Thornton and The Boxmasters performance will have the venue packed of about 5,000 attendees. Ashley Pond Park is an open air venue, located in the heart of Los Alamos, there is no assigned seating locations and dancing is always welcome!
