COMMUNITY News:

The 5th Annual Bike and Gear Swap, a fundraiser for the Los Alamos Tuff Riders, will take place at 170 Central Park Square, three doors down from Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op, 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, June 4.

This free event is the perfect venue to sell items that would otherwise collect dust in the closet, shed, or garage. Those who are looking for a bike to ride on our trails, commute, or otherwise enjoy the outdoors are likely to find what they need at a great price. And there is no need to be a bike expert; the Tuff Riders will have knowledgeable volunteers, including bike mechanics, on hand to help.

“The Bike and Gear Swap is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Tuff Riders Vice President Kristin Pederson said. “We count on it to help us hold mountain biking events and support volunteer trail work efforts throughout the year,” said Tuff Rider Treasurer Mari Jorgensen.

In past years, the Bike and Gear Swap was held on the Los Alamos Co-op Market lawn, but it has outgrown the space.

“We enjoyed working with the Co-op,” stated Shawn West, Tuff Rider member and volunteer. “But, we needed more room to accommodate the increasing number of bikes.”

This year, the Tuff Riders will operate the Bike and Gear Swap at 170 Central Park Square, where they can easily accommodate the growing swap. In addition, they are now using an online sale management system, the same company Little Forest Playschool uses for their Resale events.

To sell items, visit https:////tuffriders.losalamos.com/bikeswap/ and register as a seller. It is free to register, and the seller keeps 85 percent of their sales. The other 15 percent supports the Tuff Riders. The online system allows sellers to enter items, print tags, and attach the tags to their gear from the convenience of their own home. The system will also allow sellers to see which items sold just after the swap.

The Los Alamos Tuff Riders Mountain Bike Club is a non-profit chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association. The club is dedicated to providing fun, social mountain bike rides and events for all ages and skill levels, helping to maintain our extensive trail network, and encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors.

The Tuff Riders are most known for the weekly rides that leave promptly at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Sullivan Field as well as 9 a.m. Saturdays near the roundabout. These rides are open to all, and they are great for meeting nice people and learning the local trails.
