My name is Heather Berghmans, and I am running for New Mexico State Senate because I believe public service is one of the most impactful ways to improve the lives of kids, women, and families.
I am challenging Sen. Daniel Ivey-Soto in the June 4, 2024 Democratic Primary.
I’m an Albuquerque native, policy analyst, and finance consultant. For more than five years, I have worked with our state lawmakers to pass legislation that has contributed to major victories for working families, our environment, abortion access, gun violence prevention, criminal justice reform, and more.
I have also helped elect progressive and forward-thinking legislators in all corners of our state through my work with the New Mexico House Democratic Campaign Committee. By working closely with state and local elected officials over the years, I’ve seen firsthand what leaders with integrity and strong values can accomplish.
I believe the families and my neighbors here in District 15 deserve a leader who upholds high moral and ethical standards in their personal and professional conduct — not a leader who is under investigation for financial and ethical misconduct, as is the current senator in this district. We need a state senator we can be proud of, and I hope to earn your respect and trust.
I’ve dedicated my life and career to advocating for the people of New Mexico. I’m ready to do more, and I’m ready to bring that expertise and passion to our State Senate. That’s why I’m stepping up to run, and I’d love your help and support.
