This is a pipe of the type often called ‘cloud-blowers’, as the rising smoke was intended to call rain clouds. It has a four-pointed ‘star’ design and three bands painted on the exterior. It retains smoke carbon on the interior. Tobacco was important for ritual use rather than recreational. Image: Pipe, Biscuit ware, ceramic. Ancestral Pueblo, Pueblo IV AD 1350-1550.
