Balderas On Filing Lawsuit Against Las Vegas Mayor

Attorney General Hector Balderas

AG News:

ALBUQUERQUE New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas has issued the following statement after the filing of a private lawsuit against Las Vegas, N.M. Mayor Tonita Gurule-Giron:

“These new allegations of public abuse are concerning, especially when my office is conducting an ongoing criminal investigation of Ms. Gurule-Giron.”

The Attorney General’s Office said Thursday that it is conducting a criminal investigation into Gurule-Giron. Two city councilors have recently filed a lawsuit against Gurule-Giron accusing her of violating the Las Vegas municipal charter when she placed City Clerk Casandra Fresquez on administrative leave in February and has not allowed her to return to work despite a 3-1 City Council vote against the mayor’s proposal to terminate Fresquez.

Another complaint from a city councilor requests that Gurule-Giron and others be investigated over the handling of absentee ballots during the 2018 city election.
