Balderas Charges Roswell Couple Accused Of Stealing More Than $1 Million From Roswell Restaurant

Attorney General Hector Balderas

AG News:

ALBUQUERQUE Attorney General Hector Balderas announced Monday that his office filed charges in Chaves County Magistrate Court, charging Brian Casaus (comptroller and office manager) and Tammy Casaus (payroll coordinator) with multiple felony crimes stemming from their theft from the Cattle Baron Restaurant in Roswell.

The two are charged with 28 and 24 felony counts, respectively, including for embezzlement, money laundering and tax fraud.

Brian Casaus worked as comptroller and office manager between 2012 and 2016 at the Cattle Baron Restaurant and Tammy Casaus was the payroll coordinator during that same time period.

My office is dedicated to protecting all New Mexicans from crimes that damage our families to our business community, Balderas said. We must keep our communities safe so that every New Mexican family has an opportunity to prosper, so I look forward to seeking justice in this case.

The Magistrate Court will set this matter for an initial hearing, at which both Defendants must be present, and the preliminary hearings for each Defendant will occur within 60 days of the initial hearing.

At the preliminary hearing, the Magistrate Court judge will determine if probable cause exists to support each charge, and bind those charges over for trial in the Fifth Judicial District Court.

Prosecutors from the Special Prosecutions Division of the Office of the Attorney General are handling the case.
