COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Atomic City Transit announces that transit data feed is now live on Google Maps.

Realtime Transit feed will enhance user experience; for example, riders get:

  • Up-to-date arrival and departure time information … allows users to plan their trips even more efficiently;
  • Advance notification of service delays … helps to reduce inconvenience to transit users; and
  • Smoother transit experiences … helps to encourage repeat users, improving potential for increased ridership.

“Our new transit data feed will provide enhanced real-time information options with the addition of the mobile app feature for riders and the utilization of GTFSR format that will update our data more frequently than standard GTFS feeds,” Transit Manager Annette Granillo said. “In addition, Google Transit will allow us to better analyze schedule data, view route trends, access real-time data, and develop reports to improve operation efficiencies to enhance the passenger experience.”

About Atomic City Transit

Public transportation has been provided in Los Alamos County by various organizations since 1980. Atomic City Transit was born and service commenced Oct. 1, 2007.

Atomic City Transit operates four distinct modes of service, including fixed route transit service in Los Alamos and White Rock; evening demand response (Dial-a-Ride) service for the general public; ADA complementary paratransit (ACT Assist) service with an origin and destination anywhere within Los Alamos County; and shuttle service between White Rock Visitor Center and Bandelier National Monument during the peak visitor season.

Atomic City Transit also provides special event services, including shuttle service for the County’s annual Fourth of July fireworks show, and safe-ride-home service on select holidays.

When Atomic City Transit began operating in 2007, it was estimated that annual ridership would reach 100,000 one-way passenger trips.
However, ridership far exceeded all expectations, with a total of 254,502 passenger trips during the first year.

Between 2012 and 2015, an average of more than 545,000 annual passenger trips have been provided, with a peak of 562,226 trips in 2012.
