LALT News:

What happens when a young fan learns he has more in common with his sci-fi movie idol than he could ever have imagined?

“At the Convention,” one of eight short plays running through Nov. 21 at the Los Alamos Little Theatre, takes us inside a ComiCon, where fans have gathered to snag an autograph from a famous movie actor,” director and author Jeanne Adkins said. “‘At the Convention’ is my first theatrical creation. It includes other interests, sprinkled with some (not all!) real life events. My hope is to bring laughter to a very serious world.”

Jeanne Adkins wrote and directed “At the Convention” for the current production at the Los Alamos Little Theatre.

The nerdy elements of the play seem to strike a chord with many Los Alamos residents. Adkins wrote the play during a LALT playwriting workshop led by Deborah Magid, who scripted two of the other plays in LALT’s “8×10’s Fifth Symphony.”

“When a play writing class was offered, I was able to combine both acting and writing, two of my favorite hobbies,” Adkins said.

Adkins also appears on stage as Mama LaChien in the story “Changing Ella,” directed by her husband, Michael.

“8×10’s Fifth Element” represents the fifth occasion that LALT has produced this format of eight short plays in an evening. The event offers not only a variety of performances — serious, comedic, downright goofy — but opportunities for newcomers to get involved or people to try out new roles in a production.

“8×10’s Fifth Symphony” performs at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Nov. 21 and a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Nov. 15.

Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets, CB FOX or at the door. For more information, visit www.lalt.org.
