TOTH News:
Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season for Christians worldwide, falls on March 6 this year and Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church will again be offering “Ashes to Go” 8:30-10 a.m. on the sidewalk near Starbucks on Central Avenue.
Since 2007, members of major Christian Churches, including Episcopalians, Anglicans, Catholics, Lutherans and Methodists, have participated in the “Ashes to Go” program, a new approach to a centuries-old tradition.
“On Ash Wednesday, we take some time to remember our mortality by having our foreheads smudged with ashes and to confess the ways in which we fail to live as our best selves,” explains The Very Rev. Christopher M. Adams, rector at Trinity on the Hill. “By God’s grace, however, we can be renewed and restored.”
“Ashes to Go” is about bringing spirit, belief, and belonging out from behind church doors and into the places where we go every day. Ashes are distributed worldwide at train stations, street corners, college campuses, and, like in Los Alamos, outside coffee shops.
“Ashes to Go” is freely available to anyone hungry for a moment of prayer, renewal and grace. It also offers a spiritual alternative to those who have no time to attend a regular church service.
Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr., also will hold worship services at 7 a.m., noon and 6:30 p.m. March 6 and welcomes anyone interested in attending a more traditional Ash Wednesday service. Contact 505.662.5107.
