Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC) nurtures culture and arts in the community. Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Fuller Lodge, the non-profit organization is hoping for support to continue its mission by doing what it does best celebrating the arts in a variety of forms.

The organization is hosting an Artful Evening, which will feature desserts by the Blue Window Bistro, music by Santa Fe Pianist Ron Grinage and a silent auction. The fundraiser also will feature a raffle for a Tiffany-style lamp.

Debbie Huling, arts council board member and co-organizer for the event, said silent auction items include oil paintings, a quilt, wine goblets, jewelry, dinner for two at the Blue Window Bistro and a plane ride.

Looking at the items donated to the auction, Huling said she is impressed by the quality. “The paintings are beautiful … (and) who wouldn’t want to go for a plane ride?”

The doors open at 6 p.m., and Grinage will begin his performance at 7 p.m., which features music by Russian composers such as Scriabin, Tchaikovsky, Prokoffiev, Schostakovich and Rochmaninov. Between pieces, Grinage said he will discuss each musical work and its composer.

Grinage said he is eager to share this program at the event because Russian music, “is such passionate and romantic music. Ever since high school I’ve been drawn to music of the late 19th and 20th century composers.”

Huling said the audience will be in for a real treat. “He is featuring Russian composers so I think that is something very unique to this community,” she said. “It’s not something you get everywhere.”

Grinage’s music combined with the ambiance of Fuller Lodge, the food by the Blue Window Bistro and the silent auction all make for one “artful” evening, Huling said.

People should attend the event because their support is needed to ensure LAAC’s programs and activities continue, Huling said. These events include the Pumpkin Glow, Kite Festival and Brown Bag shows at Fuller Lodge.

“How do you provide top quality events and programs with a static budget?” she asked. “The fundraiser is to support those activities that are very well received by the community.”

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at CB FOX or at the door.
