ART News:
Calling all Los Alamos artists! Last year, after a long hiatus, a group of artists decided to get the artist studio tour going again.
Sixteen artists participated in the 2014 tour and it had visitors come from all over northern New Mexico and from the Balloon Fiesta to see what Los Alamos had to offer. Now that the word is out that the tour is happening again, it’s sure to bring in even bigger crowds to the area, organizers said.
The 2015 Studio Tour is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. There will be an artist’s reception 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Samples of all artists’ work will be on display throughout the weekend in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge.
“This year, we’re planning an art themed weekend in Los Alamos, getting as many people in the community involved as possible!” organizer Amy Bjarke said. “The 2015 tour is scheduled to run on the same weekend as the Fuller Lodge Art Center ’s Arts & Crafts Fair which typically pulls in about 800 visitors on that Saturday alone. We’re still in the planning stages, but we want to turn Los Alamos into an artist hub for this special weekend!”
LAAST is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, operating under the sponsorship of the Los Alamos Arts Council and consists of a working committee of artists.
“If you are an artist and are willing to open your home/studio to visitors, we would love to have you on the tour!” Bjarke said. “Participating in the Studio Tour is a great way to meet new people, spend an entire weekend creating, and telling the stories behind your masterpieces.”
