Art ReSale Benefits Los Alamos Libraries

ART News:

Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries (FLACL) will hold an Art ReSale at Mesa Public Library in the Upstairs Meeting Rooms Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Dec. 4, 5, and 6.

The ReSale will be open during regular library hours. There will be an opening reception, 3- 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, when Friday selling will begin.

The ReSale is the brainchild of Friends member Jody Shepard, who has long wanted to hold some sort of fundraiser to benefit the organization.

“I love collecting art, and have done so for many years,” Shepard said. “When you’re a collector, as I am, eventually you don’t have room to display anything else, but it’s hard to part with these beloved things. If I can sell or contribute them to a good cause, and make room for new things at the same time, that is the ideal situation.”

Shepard contacted other collectors she knows, and found that many of them had the same “problem.” Collectors will receive 75 percent of the selling price, with FLACL receiving 25 percent. The show will feature original artwork, prints, and photographs, many of which are by local artists, past and present.

“Maybe you’ll find a piece that you always wish you had bought at the time,” she advises art shoppers. You may even find one of your own to buy back.”

The organization operates the bookstore in the lobby of Mesa Public Library, with funds from the bookstore going to support many different initiatives which involve literacy, in Los Alamos and in the region. FLACL provides support to the Los Alamos County Library System collections in the form of e-books and audiobooks, encyclopedia sets, and many additional materials.

FLACL supports programs at the Libraries for adults and children and provides scholarships to high school students. For more information about Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries, go to http://www.flacl.org/.
